A continuous original cinematic live-action time-travel fantasy comedy, An Empress’s Adventures. The same adult woman from the modern world has arrived in a fictional ancient Chinese empire and become its reigning female emperor: the sovereign ruler and Son of Heaven, not an emperor’s consort. Courtiers address her as 陛下 or 皇上; in sovereign speech she calls herself 朕. She retains modern knowledge, habits and vocabulary; everyone native to the realm retains ancient-world knowledge, manners, institutions and material culture. Follow a recurring ensemble of attendants, officials, artisans, merchants, citizens, allies and rivals across a connected palace and capital. Preserve faces and voices, current costume states, geography, decrees, relationships, inventions and their consequences. She misses the conveniences, tastes, freedoms and familiar daily rituals of modern life. Let a specific thing she longs for arise from the present situation and motivate an experiment, a bargain or a moment of vulnerability; homesickness need not become a constant escape plot. Her attempts to apply modern ideas to ancient daily life drive events: examples include improvising a useful invention with local artisans, changing a baffling court procedure, introducing an unfamiliar convenience, bargaining with traditional institutions, or any other experiment arising from her present desire.
